"Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse..." Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from my family to yours! -Mrs. Lee The Kindergarten classrooms have been busy this week wrapping things up before the Winter break. The holiday spirit is definitely in the air, students have worked hard to make a special little gift to give to their family. Please look for a decorated brown paper bag tomorrow. Students will also bring home their first report card tomorrow, these will be in their blue communication folders. Because of the business of this week, we will not have time for library book exchange. We will resume regular library times first week in January.
*REMINDERS: -Students are invited to bring their favorite stuffed animal to school tomorrow (please make sure these stuffy friends are not too big) -Students are encouraged to wear red and green for our last day of caroling (a festive hat would be great too) -Classes resume on Monday, January 8, 2018 Just a reminder that parents are invited to join us for caroling this week (9:15-9:35am). Our class will be assisting with instruments for one song tomorrow. Hope to see you there!
Students were given the option this morning during Exploration to paint a stocking, We used oil pastels and water colour paint. Ask your child what the steps were to complete this project. "How many more days until Christmas?" This has become the most frequently asked question in Kindergarten lately. 13 more sleeps is what we counted today. The students have been really engaged in Calendar Time this month. We have been working on days of the week, months of the year, counting forwards/backwards and extending patterns with pictures/actions/sounds. We recently added reading one day from the book, "The 12 days of Christmas" to our Calendar Time routine. The students look forward to singing the song and finding out what the special gift is each day. So far, we've gotten a lot of birds! After, the students work on a Math journal page (our number today was 5). Students practice printing the numeral, writing the word and showing a representation of the number in a picture. Throughout this process, there's been a lot of talk about presents. Kids are telling me all about what they want for Christmas. So we decided to do some fun reflective journaling. Do you deserve a present? Show me the evidence? *REMINDERS:
-Library books due tomorrow -Caroling every morning next week (Dec. 18-21). Feel free to join us in the gym from 9:15-9:35am With Christmas coming around the corner, holiday traditions have naturally become the main topic of conversation amongst the students. There has been a lot of talk about elves and Santa, in particular.
Today, students were given the task to make an invention that will help Santa. There were many creative ideas. After a brainstorming session, students were asked to sketch a "blueprint" of their invention. Last week, we spent time examining real blueprints. We learned that a Scientist always has a plan! Students were encouraged to label their designs with words by sounding out the first-letter-sound. The next step was to build a "miniature model" of their design. They were given two materials for building: plasticine and pipe cleaners. The Kindergarten students were focused and engaged on this task for almost two hours! Have a look at our learning from today: Beginning the week of December 4th, students in each classroom are encouraged to bring food donations to support the annual Mayor’s Food Bank Drive. Students will be using the donations to support and deepen learning within their classrooms. You can follow the link below to view the most needed items that are currently requested by our food bank. http://www.calgaryfoodbank.com/about/our-wishlist/ Our boxes will be picked up between December 18th and 21st. Please help us fill our boxes and support the hungry and needy in Calgary! *REMINDERS:
